When we first met Hayden Martin, we knew right away he was a special kind of athlete. Hailing from New Zealand with a UTR around 8, Hayden was not just a solid tennis player—he was also one of the top racketlon athletes in the country, a sport that combines tennis, squash, badminton, and table tennis. On top of his athletic talents, he was a strong student with a sharp mind and high academic aspirations.
Hayden came to us looking for the perfect balance between academics and athletics—he did not just want to play college tennis; he wanted to grow as a student, athlete, and person. After diving into his goals and getting a clear sense of the experience he was after, we realized that a Division III program would be the ideal route. That kicked off a thorough 5–6 month process where we helped Hayden connect with over 15 schools across the U.S.
There were plenty of solid opportunities on the table, but we were patient. We wanted to find that one school that checked every box—great academics, competitive athletics, and a coach who truly valued Hayden as both a player and a person. That perfect fit ended up being Loras College.
The moment Hayden spoke with the coach at Loras, there was a different energy. The coach was not only an experienced leader, but also someone who genuinely cared about building a supportive and competitive team culture. The school’s academic environment was just what Hayden was looking for, and with a football team on campus and a well‑rounded student life, it became clear that Loras would be more than just a place to play tennis—it would be a place to thrive.
