Case Study: Francisco “Toto” Llanes – Finding a Fresh Start at USF
Francisco Llanes, or “Toto” as most people call him, is a talented player from Uruguay who originally began his college tennis journey at the University of Central Florida (UCF). While he had a good experience there, something did not quite click long‑term. He felt he needed a change—both in his tennis environment and his academic setting.
That is when Toto came to us.
He was looking to transfer, but he wasn’t looking to go just anywhere. One thing was clear from the start: he loved Florida and wanted to stay in‑state. Florida had become a second home, and keeping that sense of comfort and familiarity was important. On top of that, his girlfriend lived nearby, so staying close to her was a huge factor in where he wanted to go next.
We took all of that into account and worked closely with Toto to explore transfer opportunities that would give him a strong tennis program, solid academics, and the personal balance he was looking for. After weighing the options, the University of South Florida (USF) stood out as the perfect next step.
USF offered everything he was looking for—a competitive tennis program, strong academic resources, and a great community. Plus, being close to his girlfriend and staying in the Florida environment made it feel like the right fit on every level.
Now at USF, Toto is in a great place. He has found that ideal mix of academic challenge, athletic growth, and personal happiness. He is thriving in his new environment, and we couldn’t be more excited to see him take off in this next chapter.
