Originally from Russia, Dimitri had spent the previous several years living and training in Italy. While completing his second year of university online, he continued pursuing tennis seriously—training consistently, competing in tournaments, and developing into a player capable of competing at the NCAA Division II level.

Then he learned about the American college tennis system: the chance to earn a university degree while representing a college tennis program and receiving an athletic scholarship.

The opportunity immediately captured his attention. There was only one major problem—Dimitri was starting the college tennis recruiting process extremely late.
